About Me
My Story
My career in healthcare began Twenty Two years ago as a Mental Health Nurse. It was through working in Addiction as a nurse that I first became interested in Holistic therapies. I was fortunate enough to be part of a forward thinking NHS team that allowed me to give treatments in Auricular Acupuncture and Reiki to patients who had been admitted for detox from drug and alcohol. This was my first introduction to Chinese medicine.
My interest in Complementary therapies grew from here, I realised that the hands on amount of care I could offer as a nurse was sadly limited. I knew that working as a Therapist I could offer a more holistic approach to helping people back to health.
Shiatsu for me is the ultimate blend of my previous interests and the therapy that ignites the most passion within me. It brings together everything I had previously learnt over the years.
I have provided Shiatsu treatments to many people in many different settings. These include Charities such as 'Freedom from Torture' where I provided treatments to refugees on a fortnightly basis, Motor Neurones Disease (MND) and within the NHS.
I am constantly adding to my knowledge by attending CPD courses as there is so much to learn.
Body work really is my passion. My interests lie in the bodies response to Trauma, and the impact of stress and anxiety on the nervous system.
Having experienced symptoms of PTSD myself I am able to bring in my own experience, where appropriate, to help clients.
Self care is an area close to my heart, I have learnt through my own health issues the importance of boundaries, and how essential it is for us to prioritise caring for our own mental, health and well being.
I also have an interest in Shamanic work which I am currently exploring further. Connecting and listening to spirit and nature during Lockdown was so essential to my wellbeing. I find the Shamanic work encourages me to go deeper within to connect with my inner guidance and intuition, encouraging me to bring nature and the elements into my healing work.
